How To Apply
Applicants applying for admission to ECE Graduate Programs at all campuses are to use the online Virginia Tech Graduate School Application Form. The complete application includes:
- A completed Virginia Tech Graduate School online application form. Students interested in being part of the new areas of emphasis (Quantum; Machine Learning; Secure Information Systems & Networks; Electronic Power Systems; and Communication, Signal Processing, & Radar) should select the NCR campus on their EE or CPE MEng application. The application deadlines are given below under key dates.
- An up-to-date, electronic copy of all official transcript(s) must be submitted with your on-line application.
- Three (3) letters of recommendation.
- GRE is not required for qualified domestic applicants. For stronger consideration please submit a GRE score if the applicant GPA is below 3.0.
- GRE is required for international students.
- TOEFL or IELTS exam for applicants earning undergraduate or graduate degrees from non-English institutions.
- A Resume and a Statement of Purpose submitted with the online application.

TOEFL and IELTS scores
Recommended TOEFL scores for each test types are:
- Internet based: 90
- IELTS Band 6.5
GRE Scores
Recommended GRE scores (RGT):
- GRE (V): 150
- GRE (Q): 155
- GRE (W): 3.5
