In Memoriam: Gilbert L. Faison
March 29, 2021
ECE is saddened by the passing of Gilbert 'Gil' L. Faison on February 8, 2021. Faison, a 1949 graduate of Electrical Engineering, celebrated his commencement with his '47 classmates whose studies were interrupted by World War II. Faison was a founding member of the ECE Advisory Board and was also prominent in industry.
Faison started his academic career at Virginia Tech in 1943 at 17-years-old, but enlisted in the Navy at the beginning of his sophomore year. During his time in Blacksburg, he was a member of the honor societies including Tau Beta Pi, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Eta Kappa Nu. Faison also lettered in baseball for three years as a pitcher and shortstop.
Gil was president and CEO of Roache, Mercer and Faison Consulting Engineers, Inc. In addition to his service on the ECE Advisory Board, he was a member of the Virginia Tech College of Engineering Committee of 100 and was also inducted into Virginia Tech's Academy of Engineering Excellence in 2006. In his personal life, Gil was a man of great faith and was heavily involved in his church and his community.
The Faison family will have a public memorial service at a later date due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
