ANDY board is included in Lab-in-a-Box

December 7, 2009 — Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) and the ECE department are sponsoring a student competition to encourage original projects using the ANDY or Spartan boards. Cash prizes of $200, $150, and $100 are available to the first, second, and third place winners. The contest is open to all ECE undergraduate and graduate students.

Students will work on their projects over the winter break with breadboards supplied by HKN or the department. The contest asks for new, unique work that was not produced for a class assignment. The winning projects will be put on display in the ECE department.

The deadline for the project has been extended until March 22, 2010.

For more information, contact Bobby Bowen, HKN president, at bobbygb@vt.edu. The contest is a joint project of Dr. Kathleen Meehan and HKN. See below for official rules.

In an attempt to teach others about the Electrical and Computer Engineering curriculum, the ECE department would like to make a display showing some student projects. In order to gain support and interest, cash prizes will be given to the winners whose projects will be displayed. All of the details for the project have been outlined below.

The competition is open to all ECE undergraduates and graduates. Each entry should incorporate the ANDY and/or Spartan Board. The entry cannot be something that was turned in for a class assignment. The entry should be new and unique. For any information or clarification about the competition, please email: Bobby Bowen (bobbygb@vt.edu) for more details. Students are allowed and encouraged to submit multiple projects.

Since we know that classes are still meeting, we will provide an extra breadboard to students who are competing. The selected winners will have their projects displayed. The winners will receive a replacement ANDY and/or Spartan board so that their board can be kept in the display.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 projects as follows. The winners will be chosen by HKN and faculty.
