Yaman Evrenosoğlu

August 10, 2011 — Cansin Yaman Evrenosoğlu has joined the ECE faculty as an assistant professor. He comes to Virginia Tech from the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), where he was an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering since 2008. Prior to joining UNR, he worked for Software & Information Systems group at Nexant, Inc. as a senior consultant for wholesale competitive electric energy markets for two years.

While at UNR, Evrenosoğlu founded and directed the Electrical Power and Renewable Energy Systems research laboratory, and created and taught two graduate level courses in power system operations. He received the Outstanding Teacher Award in 2009 from the University of Nevada IEEE student branch.

Evrenosoğlu's research interests span electric power system analysis, operation and design; reliable integration of renewable energy systems to the grid; power system dynamic/static state estimation; fault location along power system transmission and distribution networks; wholesale competitive electric energy markets; application of optimization methods to power system operation; and data visualization in power systems. He is the author of 20 journal and conference papers.

He is an active senior member of the IEEE, and served as chair of the Northern Nevada section and on several committees.

Evrenosoğlu earned his B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in Turkey in 1998 and 2001 respectively, and his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University in 2006.
