Prerequisites

Prerequisites: ECE 3106 Electromagnetic Fields; ECE 3204 Electronics II. Corequisites: ECE 4605 Radio Engineering.

3106, 3204, and senior standing (prerequisite), 4605 (corequisite). The necessary background consists of devices, biasing, and basic low frequency amplifiers concepts, as well as some basic transmission line and Smith chart principles. A student should be able to bias a transistor circuit and analyze its basic low frequency performance. They should also be able to analyze basic networks and their general frequency performance (as covered in 3204). It is critical that they have a basic understanding of 2-port equivalent circuits and related modeling as presented in 3204 and prerequisites. They should also be able to model short sections of transmission line as corresponding inductors and capacitors as well as represent impedance transformations on the Smith chart.
