Guoqiang Yu
August 27, 2012 — Guoqiang Yu has joined the ECE faculty as an assistant professor. He was previously a postdoctoral fellow for bioinformatics and statistical machine learning at Stanford University School of Medicine and Bio-X. Yu is stationed at the ECE offices in the Virginia Tech Research Center - Arlington in Northern Virginia.
His research interests include machine learning, pattern recognition, signal and image processing, and applied statistics. His research focuses on developing computational bioinformatics and systems genetics tools for the integrated modeling and analysis of various human diseases using genomic, epigenetic, and molecular data.
Yu has published 25 journal and conference papers and contributed to a chapter of a recent book titled Statistical Diagnostics of Cancer: Analyzing High Dimensional Genetics and Genomics Data. He has given more than eight invited talks, and has been a reviewer for six journals and conferences.
He received the 2011 William A. Blackwell award from the Virginia Tech ECE department and the Best Student Paper Award from the IEEE International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedicine in 2009.
Yu earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Shandong University in 2001, his M.S. from Tsinghua University in 2004, and his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech in 2011.
